Legally Blonde In An Affirmative Action World
I am a full-time law student. To my disadvantage, I am also Caucasian, blonde, and upper-middle class.
As an undergraduate, I had a near perfect GPA. My LSAT score was excellent. I interned, and I was the president of every college organization that had a president.
Despite my qualifications, however, I was very nervous that I would not be accepted into the law school of my choice, because I lacked the one characteristic that law schools crave—diversity.
Every day I received stacks of mail from law schools all over the country trying to persuade me to apply. They shared the same tactic of persuasion: multipage pamphlets and catalogs designed to prove that they are more “diverse” than all other law schools. The pamphlet pages were lined with photos of African American students, professors, and famous alumni. They had statistics in a big, bold font informing me of the percentage of students who are black and Hispanic. Every pamphlet increased my anxiety that, despite my hard work and excellent performance, I had little chance of being accepted into law school.
I feared that my inability to bring “diversity” to a campus would be more important than my intelligence and proven ability.
Even the law school that I am attending has a Diversity Committee. According to my school's brochure it plays a big part in creating a culture of "inclusiveness" at my University.
Yeah, right. Just check out 
a website operated by the Law School’ Admissions Council, and you will certainly feel the “inclusiveness.”

John Derbyshire On That Census Report: White America—Lost In A Fit Of Absence Of Mind?
I see from the Census Bureau tables that my age cohort, the 60-somethings, numbered just over 29 million in the year 2010, of which 77 percent were non-Hispanic white [NHW]. The next cohort up, the 70-somethings, were 79 percent NHW; octogenarians were 84 percent, nonagenarians 86 percent.
With those last two groups you're well nigh back in mid-20th-century America. The 1950 census recorded us as 89.54 percent white, 9.98 percent black, "other" at trace-element levels. (There was no such census category as "Hispanic" until 1970.)
Down at the other end of the population pyramid, things look different. Those 2010 numbers show 20-somethings as only 60 percent NHW, the 10-to-19s as 57 percent, and the under-tens at 54 percent.
Last week came the news that in the youngest micro-cohort of all, that of infants born in the year up to July 2011, NHWs were less than 50 percent.
This is the continuation of a long reversal. At the time of Independence, the territory of the present-day 48 contiguous states contained Europeans, indigenes, and Africans (or African-white and African-indigene mixtures, both counted as "black"), in percentages roughly 62, 22, and 16, respectively.
The subsequent expansion of U.S. territory, together with waves of European immigration through to the 1920s, had the effect of making the country whiter. The whiteness peaked and then plateaued through the middle decades of the last century, the time of the great immigration moratorium, 1924-65.
Then came the reversal: the 1965 Immigration Act, which triggered mass immigration after a forty-year lull, followed by the Great Insouciance towards illegal immigration from Mexico and points south that took off in the 1970s. (The 1965 Act had actually imposed an annual quota on Latin
Will The U.S. Go “Into the Cannibal's Pot”?
The Census Bureau’s announcement that a majority of births in the U.S. last year were non-white makes Ilana Mercer's latest book, Into the Cannibal's Pot: Lessons for America from Post-Apartheid South Africa more relevant to Americans than ever.
Not surprisingly, no mainstream publisher would have anything to do with this a stunning indictment of the state of affairs in Bantu-ruled South Africa, even though most praised the book as "well-written", "riveting", and "worthy of publication". After all, the South Africa ruled by Afrikaners (“Boers”) was the international bogeyman of the Left—and the politically-correct Right.
When in 1994, the communist terrorist Nelson Mandela and his white-hating ANC party took over and began dismantling one of the most successful countries in the world, the new South Africa, effectively ruled by Mandela's Xhosa tribe, became the darling of the Western commentariat. Mandela, like Martin Luther King, became a secular saint to politically-correct Westerners and any criticism of either Mandela or post-1994 South Africa is either ignored or drowned in politically-correct indignation. The bombings and brutal murders (like the infamous “necklacings” where Blacks opposed to the ANC would have a tire thrown around their necks and set on fire) are conveniently disregarded by the "Madiba's" Western sycophants.
Ilana Mercer opens the book with a harrowing chronicle of the out-of-control violence visited by the new rulers of South Africa upon its rapidly dwindling white minority:
- The younger sister of an Afrikaner rugby star was abducted from the hospital where she went to attend medical school by three knife wielding assailants and was raped at knife-point.
- An elderly Orthodox Jew was shot to death on the way to synagogue in Johannesburg for refusing to hand over the bag in which he carried his prayer shawl.
- Her own husband's professor was beaten to death by an angry African student; a relative's neighbor was shot to death point-blank in front of his little daughters as he was about to open his garage.

The Fulford File | Tinley Park Attack: Anarcho-Tyranny In America
On Saturday, a gang of self-proclaimed “anti-racist” thugs burst into a Tinley Park, Illinois restaurant, where they alleged some “white supremacists” were having a dinner, and attacked them with hammers, iron bars and batons. Several people were injured (including Mike Winston, the restaurant manager, who tried to defend his patrons). The website antiracistaction.org is openly boasting about this.
When I blogged about this gang attack, I mentioned that this kind of thing can happen to any conservative. But, in what I supposed must be called a reversal of Martin Niemoller’s famous “first they came...” statement, the first targets for this kind of aggression are anyone who’s identified (by the attackers) with Nazis, fascists, racists etc.
The controversial British historian David Irving has been a big target for the anti-fascist crowd. Back in 2000, there was an attack on an appearance by him in the Chicago area:

On November 23, 2009 a similar gang tried invading another Chicago-area David Irving dinner. But this time Irving’s friends had anticipated an attack, laid a police trap, and had five of them arrested. Irving’s website reported:

Dennis Kucinich has recently announced that he will be leaving the U.S. Congress after seven terms. He had lost the Democratic primary in an Ohio House district which was, because of Republican redistricting, largely composed of voters from a neighboring district held by another liberal Democrat, Marcy Kaptur, who won. Kucinich still got 71% support from those portions of his old district that could vote for him. There was talk Kucinich would move to Washington State, where many Democrats are greens or reds, and run for one of the open House seats. But it hasn’t panned out.
(As a resident of the state, I think he could have won—and still might become a force if he moves here).
In 2004 I volunteered for Kucinich’s run for the Democratic presidential nomination. I worked for him again in 2008. My reason was simple: because of H-1b expansion, I had been unable to find to find a suitable job for years.
Americans concerned about H-1b expansion were (and are) faced with a peculiar situation: literally every politician who needed to raise large amounts to maintain their position in Congress votes for H-1b expansion. We have even seen stuff like members of Tom Tancredo's Immigration Reform Caucus putting H-1b expansion bills over the top.
Kucinich was, and is, very far from being a patriotic immigration reformer. He opposed H-1b expansion on the principled grounds that any kind of immigration, except the permanent-resident green card type, was problematic from a civil rights perspective—in effect, it has reinvented indentured servitude.

Eve Carson was the golden girl—pretty, popular, brilliant, altruistic. Funny, too.
Born and raised in Athens, Georgia, Carson had been her high school class president, and was elected student government president at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. A senior, double-majoring in political science and medicine, she was an aspiring doctor. Attending UNC on a Morehead-Cain Scholarship, she was a North Carolina Fellow and a Phi Beta Kappa, taught science in an elementary school, tutored in a middle school, mentored girls in a track/character-building program, and volunteered summers in Third World programs. Whew!
But all that ended when a couple of black thugs turned her into yet another statistic.
At 3:30 a.m., on March 5, 2008, Carson was kidnapped by Demario “Rio” Atwater and Laurence Lovette Jr., as she left her house to get into her SUV.

Small-city department doesn't have a homicide unit, handles few killings yearly
SANFORD, Fla.—The killing of Trayvon Martin here two and a half months ago has been cast as the latest test of race relations and equal justice in America. But it was also a test of a small city police department that does not even have a homicide unit and typically handles three or four murder cases a year.
An examination of the Sanford Police Department’s handling of the case shows a series of missteps—including sloppy work—and circumstances beyond its control that impeded the investigation and may make it harder to pursue a case that is already difficult enough.

However, nothing in the Kovaleski allegations rises to the level of incompetence—at least not if by incompetence one means that evidence of Zimmerman's guilt was lost, overlooked or destroyed. And, as will be seen, all the minor failures of the investigators, and the one major failure, were not in Zimmerman’s favor.

After the fuss about my April 5 column in Taki's Magazine blew up, I assumed that within a week or two it would all have faded into the Cosmic Microwave Background of stale news, and I'd be able to get on with writing about other things that interest me: Far Eastern affairs, math and the physical sciences, the human sciences, history, religion, politics, literature, and poetry.
No such luck. Once the Lefties have a real live racial heretic in their sights, and understand—as of course they now understand very clearly—that they can use him as a stick with which to beat the race-whipped Respectable Right, with nothing coming back at them from that quarter but squealing, supplicatory protestations of racial orthodoxy, they're going to milk the situation for all it's worth. This show will run and run.
I suppose I only have myself to blame. As a close friend told me: "For goodness' sake, John, in the U.S.A. not even the world's greatest living geneticist can say true facts about race out loud. What chance did you think you had?"
Which is right, of course. Like James Watson and other somewhat-Aspergery types, I fall rather easily into the childish assumption that truth trumps everything, and that statements based on facts, including statistical facts, may fairly be challenged only by a set of facts that better fits the actual world of actual reality, so far as we are able to apprehend that world.
That stuff does happen. It's called "good science." It forms, however, only a minuscule
