The Fulford File | The War On Easter Is Just Like The War On Christmas, But Fewer People Have Noticed

Recently I blogged about something social conservative Michael Medved wrote

in the Daily Beast of all places, that the reason there's no "War On Easter" like there's a War on Christmas is that Easter is so religious, compared to Christmas:

Why There’s No ‘War on Easter’ by Michael Medved

"Unlike the December holidays, separating Easter and Passover from their religious roots is impossible—no one can agonize over the ‘December Dilemma’ or our increasingly tedious ‘War on Christmas,’ says Michael Medved. "

I'm not going to bother with his actual argument, since it's based on the premise that there is no War on Easter, which for those haven't read our coverage of it in previous years, I can refute with two words:"Spring Bunny."

The link on “Spring Bunny” goes to a Google News search for the words “Spring Bunny” and most of those links are entirely serious—kids are being taught that the Easter Bunny is called the “Spring Bunny” and they’re going on “Spring Egg Hunts.”

Obviously, the Easter Bunny isn’t religious symbol. Easter is in the springtime, because that’s when the Passion of Christ happened, and both Spring and the Resurrection are symbolized by rabbits and eggs.

But because Easter is Christian festival, mention of it is frequently banned by schools and communities.

The Daily Beast, of course, is the journal that had Max Blumenthal pen an attack on us in 2008, saying we had  “Started the War on Christmas”. [Help VDARE.COM Defend Christmas! Max Blumenthal Kicks Off Our 2008 War Against Christmas Competition!]

A news search for War Against Easter found zero results.

A news search for “War On Easter” brought up only Medved, and  a  Mediaite item where a commenter said “We'll add ‘The War on Sarah Palin’ to Fox's other invented conflicts, ‘The War on Christmas’ and ‘The War on Easter.’” (I’m not blaming this site for its commenters, but how deluded do you have to be think there isn’t a War On Sarah Palin?)

I’ve mentioned before that “Good Friday and Easter are subject to the same pressures

National Data | March Jobs: Natives Lose, Immigrants Gain in a Dismal Month

A funny thing happened on the way to recovery. The economy added 120,000 jobs in March, well below the consensus forecast and only half the job creation recorded in February. Not since November has monthly job growth been below the 200,000 level.

Unreported as usual: immigrant displacement of native-born Americans also increased.

Economists were blindsided by the overall numbers. For weeks, the economic tea leaves had apparently

Hutaree Militiamen Cleared In Court

Much to the chagrin of the Southern Poverty Law Center, a federal judge has cleared the members of a Michigan militia who were accused by federal law enforcement agents of conspiracy to commit sedition. Since you didn’t hear much about this ruling from the national press corps, here is one online version of the report:

Memo From Middle America |Immigration Patriots Thwarted In Mississippi—For Now

Our federal government has failed for years to control our borders properly and detain and deport illegal aliens. And, with Obama’s Administrative Amnesty, it’s getting worse. That’s why states have to fight back with legislation designed to combat the illegal alien invasion as passed in Arizona, Alabama and other states.

Of course, these laws are resisted at every turn, and frequently their effectiveness is reduced by legislating liberal judges. (Breaking news! Obamacare has convinced liberals it’s OK to impeach federal judges—just like VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow has always said!)

But the laws are having an effect and hopefully, with more pressure, more states will adopt them. If nothing else, they are a way of educating the public.

The latest scene of such a battle: the state of Mississippi. Mississippi has a growing problem with illegal immigration. Mississippi’s auditor’s office estimates the illegal population in the state to be 90,000. That’s relatively low compared to some other states. But if not stopped, it’s likely to keep growing. And it’s altering the state’s demographics. It’s now the South, not the Southwest, which has the country’s fastest-growing Hispanic population.

Some Mississippi lawmakers decided to take action. As reported CNN:

Mississippi's Republican-dominated House of Representatives voted 70-47 Thursday to pass the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhood Act."…., H.B. 488. The Mississippi bill includes measures like requiring police to check the immigration status of people who are arrested. It would also prohibit any "business transactions," including renewing a driver's license and getting a business license.

Mississippi lawmakers pass controversial immigration bill, by Joe Sutton, CNN, March 16, 2012

This sounds great to me. A big advantage: the state’s governor, Republican Phil Bryant, a former deputy sheriff, totally supported HB 488 and in fact had run for governor on a get-tough-with-illegal- immigration platform.

The National Council of La Raza, needless to say, announced its opposition to HB 488, and in a propagandistic cheap shot, tried to link it with Mississippi’s segregated past:

“…like Alabama, Mississippi’s attempt to pass anti-Latino

John Harvey’s Race And Equality: The “Standard Social Science Model” is W-R-O-N-G

[Peter Brimelow writes: As an intellectual episode, the repression of race realism over the last sixty or seventy years can only be compared to Copernicus and Galileo. But Copernicus and Galileo did not have the internet or the modern publishing technology that has allowed Professor Richard Lynn, now 81, to establish the Ulster Institute and ensure that this debate continues. We post tonight Lynn’s thoughts on the Ulster Institute’s latest publication: Race and Equality, by John Harvey].

[Previously by Richard Lynn: Race Differences, Immigration, And The Twilight of the European Peoples]

Throughout the social sciences, the early and middle decades of the twentieth century saw the repudiation of genetics as the determinant of individual and race differences in intelligence and achievement, and its replacement by “culture”. In anthropology, Franz Boas argued in his influential book The Mind of Primitive Man (1911) that there was no such thing as a superior culture. In psychology, John B. Watson asserted

“Give me a dozen healthy infants, well-formed, and my own specified world to bring them up in and I'll guarantee to take any one at random and train him to become any type of specialist I might select—doctor, lawyer, artist, merchant-chief and, yes, even beggar-man and thief, regardless of his talents, penchants, tendencies, abilities, vocations, and race of his ancestors”.

This position became known as “the standard social science model”.

There were a few dissenters. Henry Garrett, head of psychology at Columbia and one-time president of the American Psychological Association, called it “the equalitarian dogma”. And Arthur Jensen, one of the leading researchers in the field of intelligence, argued that the black-white differences in intelligence in the United States do probably have some genetic basis. But the “standard social science model” has remained dominant. It even

The Democrats' Election Forgery Racket

A few weeks ago, Obama senior adviser and seasoned Chicago operative David Axelrod joked on MSNBC about election corruption. Asked whether "vote early and often" scams had come to an end in his shady hometown, Axelrod snarked: "Well, certainly on the air." Yuk, yuk, yuk.

A Nation Arms Itself—For What?

With the shooting death of Trayvon Martin by a neighborhood watch volunteer who was legally carrying a 9-millimeter handgun, the familiar wail has arisen from our cultural and media elite:

America has too many guns!

“Open carry” and “concealed carry” laws should be repealed.

Herbivore Concessions Enable Rubio’s New DREAM Act—Same Old Nightmare For America’s Unemployed

VDARE.com often makes constructive criticisms of what Editor Peter Brimelow sometimes calls the herbivorous patriotic immigration reform movement inside the Beltway—namely the Center for Immigration Studies, Numbers USA, and Federation for American Immigration Reform. I tend to see each group as doing their own part to move the debate in the right direction.

However, when the DREAM Act was being pushed during the lame duck 2010 Congress, I was concerned that many of our herbivore allies seemed to

Why Western Music Is Superior to Eastern

Anyone trained in Western music, or familiar with its history, understands its profound superiority of development in all aspects of the art.  No other music in the world remotely compares with it.

VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow has asked me to give an account of this phenomenon. So, on the presumed authority of three degrees in music, together with two in religion and literature respectively—and as an enrolled member of the Comanche Nation and therefore an impartial observer!—I offer the following basic narrative.

Human culture is traditionally divided geographically—as “eastern” and “western.”  This cultural divide is apparent in music, perhaps more than any other human endeavor.

“East” here means culture east of Israel, and “west,” culture west of Israel.  There are obviously subdivisions of these global regions, both geographically and historically.

We address here cultural, traditional music—not the popular music of the electronic, recording age since the 1950’s.  “Popular” music is wholly Western, with primitive rhythm obviously maintained even when performed by Chinese pop stars—in Chinese

Two Congressman, GOP and Democrat (!), Suggest Redeploying Materiel To Border. Why Not Troops?

[See also Cavalry to the Border! By  Henry McCulloch]

Two U.S. Representatives from Texas, joined by 17 border-county sheriffs from Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, have written a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta requesting that military materiel made surplus by U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq and Afghanistan be redeployed to America's notorious sieve of a Southern border.[War surplus sought for U.S. security |2 lawmakers cite need at border with Mexico, By Jerry Seper, Washington Times, March 27, 2012]

This is an excellent idea.  Of course, it is unlikely to receive a reasonable hearing from Panetta or anyone else in the Obama Administration.  Nevertheless, it puts down a marker. It may force the Obama Administration to go even more blatantly

Memo From Middle America | Zimmerman Lynch Mob Exposes “Hispanic” Paper Tiger

The MSM “narrative” of the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman tragedy shooting—White Man shoots Black Teenager!—was barely changed by the revelation that the shooter can technically be classified as “Hispanic”. (His mother is Peruvian).

Zimmerman is also a registered Democrat, for what that’s worth. And Zimmerman is sometimes a Jewish name, as in the case of his father’s namesake “Robert Zimmerman” a.k.a. Bob Dylan, but a post over on Tablet Mag (which describes itself as a “daily online magazine of Jewish news, ideas, and culture.”) reassures the readers that “Zimmerman, Trayvon Martins Killer is not Jewish” [By Marc Tracy, March 21, 2012]. Apparently, George Zimmerman was raised Catholic, even serving as an altar boy.

The only effect of the revelation of Zimmerman’s ethnicity: the MSM switched to calling him a “white Hispanic”—a term, as Ellison Lodge pointed out last night, that a Google search shows was previously almost unknown.

The lynch mob continues to assemble—incited by none other than the President of the United States.

Which leads to the next question. Are Hispanics, especially the numerous self-appointed professional Hispanic  noise-makers, defending George Zimmerman? And if not, why not?

The National Council of La Raza did issue a statement by its CEO Janet Murguia, A Complete Investigation is Vital for Justice in Trayvon Martin Case

Well, I’m sure we could all agree on that. But the statement was hardly a ringing endorsement:

Later, Rush Limbaugh actually pointed out that La Raza wasn’t defending Zimmerman. La Raza spokeswoman Lisa Navarrete responded with "We really regret people trying to use this to divide blacks and Latinos. It's disturbing to us that Rush Limbaugh has this theory. The only time he apparently cares about what happens to a Latino is when they may have happened to kill a young African-American man."

La Raza says it’s Not ignoring Trayvon Martin Case, by Nick Valencia, CNN, March 28, 2012

The folks over at LULAC, League of Latin American Citizens don’t appear to be defending Zimmerman either. I checked out the LULAC website, League of Latin American Citizens, and didn’t find anything.

Nor is La Opinion, a leading Spanish-language Los Angeles newspaper. In fact its articles just seem to follow the Leftist party line. Its front page story on March 29, 2012 is Visten sudaderas por Trayvon, about California legislators dressing in hoodies (!) for a press conference.

The Mexican media, from what I’ve seen, don’t seem real interested in the story either. This March 24 article   didn’t even mention the Hispanic angle. [“De tener un hijo, sería como Trayvon” | Obama exige aclarar asesinato de joven afroestadounidense]

Of course, this is a big contrast to how the Mexican media goes on and on about issues related to illegal alien Mexicans in the U.S.

Florida is full of Cubans, but the Spanish-language media there has nothing particular to say.

It occurred to me, though, how about the Peruvian media? After all, George Zimmerman’s mother was Peruvian.

Sure enough, this connection was acknowledged in the Peruvian media. But I found no ringing defense of George Zimmerman there either. For example:

George Zimmerman, el hombre de raíces peruanas odiado en EE.UU. (George Zimmerman, the man of Peruvian roots hated in the U.S.) El Comercio, March 24, 2012

This was followed up with Peruano-estadounidense mató a joven negro en defensa propia (“Peruvian-American Kills Young Black Man in Self-Defense”) El Comercio, March 26, 2012

Trayvon And Zimmerman—It's All About Race Now

If it had been a white teenager who was shot, and a 28-year-old black guy who shot him, the black guy would have been arrested.

So assert those demanding the arrest of George Zimmerman, who shot and killed Trayvon Martin.

And they may be right.

Yet if Trayvon had been shot dead by a black neighborhood watch volunteer, Jesse Jackson would not have been in a pulpit in Sanford, Fla., howling that he had been "murdered and martyred."

Maxine Waters would not be screaming "hate crime."

Rep. Hank Johnson would not be raging that Trayvon had been "executed." And ex-Black Panther Bobby Rush would not have been wearing a hoodie in the well of the House.

Which tells you what this whipped-up hysteria is all about.

It is not about finding the truth about what happened that night in Sanford when Zimmerman followed Trayvon in his SUV, and the two wound up in a fight, with Trayvon dead.

It is about the exacerbation of and the exploitation of racial conflict.

And it is about an irreconcilable conflict

How George Zimmerman Became White

Noel Ignatiev is a pioneer in the growing field of “whiteness studies” that seeks to deconstruct and delegitimize whites.  He is the editor of the publication Race Traitor whose explicit goal is to “abolish the white race”, arguing that “treason to whiteness is loyalty to humanity.”

Genocide? Ignatiev [Email him] insists he does not mean literally abolishing white people,

“It is not fair skin that makes people white; it is fair skin in a certain kind of society, one that attaches social importance to skin color. When we say we want to abolish the white race, we do not mean we want to exterminate people with fair skin. We mean that we want to do away with the social meaning of skin color, thereby abolishing the white race as a social category” [What We Believe, Race Traitor, The Journal of The New Abolitionism]

I hold no brief for Ignatiev or his views, but this is intellectually consistent. He believes that race is a social construct, so he is not calling for killing people, but the supposed construct.

Ignatiev’s best known scholarly work is his Harvard dissertation, published as How the Irish Became White, which claims that Irish were not originally considered to be “white” by their Anglo Saxon brethren in America, but became accepted as “white” by adopting racism against African Americans.

Of course, this is just Leftist wishful race-denial. The 1790 Naturalization Act restricted citizenship to “free white persons,” yet the Irish were eligible for citizenship from the beginning. Similarly, anti-miscegenation laws existed from Colonial days until well after Independence, but they did not prevent Anglo Saxons from marrying Irish, though they prevented Irish from marrying blacks or Native Americans.

In contrast to the Irish, there was a direct attempt by the Hispanics to be considered white. This was possible because Hispanic is a linguistic and ethnic, not a racial, category.

For example, the 1876 Texas constitution established segregated schools between blacks and whites. Hispanics’ status was muddled. Depending on the local school board, they would be grouped with blacks, whites, or by themselves.

But as more Mexicans immigrated to this country following the 1910-1920 Mexican Revolution and subsequent upheavals, they began lobbying to be grouped with whites. This effort intensified after community leaders founded LULAC, the “League of United Latin American Citizens” in 1929. And they eventually succeeded in having Mexicans grouped with whites.

With this in mind, let’s consider the ethnic identity of George Zimmerman. Zimmerman, for those who have not read the news for the past two weeks,

Diversity Is Strength! It’s Also....1984 in the U.K. (and the U.S.?)

Recently in the UK, Fabrice Muamba, a Congolese playing for the Bolton Wanderers professional soccer team, collapsed after a heart attack. He has received medical attention and now looks likely to survive. But the incident has developed into further evidence of Britain’s emerging police state and its determination to suppress even trivial verbal resistance to the abolition of the historic nations of the British Isles through immigration policy.

Get this: A 21 year-old student called Liam Stacey has just been sentenced to prison for 56 days for “inciting racial hatred”—actually just for writing “laughing out loud” [LOL] on a social media website after reading of the collapse of the Congolese player (see Pictured: Student 'troll' who posted 'racially offensive' tweet about Muamba just hours after player suffered heart attack and Liam Stacey gets 56 days in jail for tweeting. When race becomes an issue, all sense goes out of the window, By Ed West, Telegraph, March 27, 2012). Stacey was dragged into further argument on the Internet. But his comments, while intemperate in tone (see video), did not seem to amount to an attempt to incite hatred in others. Additionally, he now seems set to be expelled from his university.

I personally don’t see the need to cheer anyone’s physical collapse. Any of us could suffer unexpected heart seizures. As you get older, you start to realise you are not immortal, and so to sympathise with other people’s health problems. No decent person could therefore be impressed by Twitter comments applauding someone’s ill-health.

On the other hand, it happens all the time—look at American leftists’ recent reaction to Dick Cheney’s heart transplant. Is anyone going to be imprisoned for that?

And, by the same token, in a free society, prosecution for trivial remarks is even more disturbing.

Astoundingly, The U.K. Daily Mail reports

Police forces throughout the UK regularly take
