The Strange Rebirth of “Jack Kemp Republicanism”
For at least the last 30 years, Republicans have been warned about the impending effects of massive Third World immigration—both legal and illegal. Starting in the mid-1980s, Chronicles magazine broke taboos by critiquing “Open Borders” as an attack on the American identity. The electoral prospects of the Republican Party were not very high on Chronicles’ list of concerns, but contributors such as Sam Francis did note that current immigration policy would destroy the GOP, as well as conservatism.
A decade later, VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow and Edwin S. Rubenstein laid out exactly how—and when—immigration would displace the Republican Party in a June 1997 cover story for National Review. They crunched the numbers and predicted that 2008 would be the first year in which the demographic wave would catch up with Republicans. After that the prospects for electing Republican presidents would just get worse.
Of course, Brimelow, Rubenstein, Francis and Chronicles were 100% correct. Massive Third World immigration has dramatically changed the U.S. and Republicans are indeed facing increasingly dismal prospects at the national level. As more Red states turn purple—and then Blue—due to over-immigration, these effects will soon be felt at the Congressional and state levels as well.
But instead of admitting their failures and trying to control immigration, Republican elites are doubling down on their policy of open borders and pandering to blacks and others who will never vote for them anyway.
In other words, they are taking the friendly advice of the New York Times to “channel Jack Kemp.”
For readers too young to remember, GOP Congressman Jack Kemp (1935-2009), Sam Tanenhaus provided a decent description in his April 5, 2014 New York Times piece, helpfully headlined Note to Republicans: Channel Jack Kemp:
It might seem a curious moment for a Jack Kemp revival. Many remember him as an evangelist for supply-side economics and its drastic tax cutting — exactly the approach some Republicans say needs to be replaced with a fresh agenda that grapples with joblessness and stagnant wages.
But there was another side to Kemp, a self-described “bleeding-heart conservative” who preached the gospel of upward mobility, economic opportunity, cultural diversity and racial justice.
In some cases, Republicans are literally recycling Kemp’s ideas from the 1970s and 80s.
Senator Rand Paul has recently tried to resurrect the idea of “enterprise zones,” whereby people who open businesses in the inner city get tax credits. Paul also has urged Republicans to “get beyond deportation” on immigration (as if they ever really tried it) and hectored his white supporters with the following Kemp-like rant:
The door’s not going to open up to the African-American community, to the Hispanic community, until we have something to offer. If you look at the war on drugs, three out of four people in prison are black or brown. But your kids and grandkids
Americans Have A Lot Toulouse In Amnesty/ Immigration Surge Battle
Remember the story about a Louvre art thief? He cleverly backed his van up to that famous Paris museum and got away with many precious paintings—only to be apprehended a few blocks away. Asked why he got caught so easily, he replied: “Monsieur, I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van Gogh!"
Well, these ubiquitous Open Border folks have De Gaulle to feel they have nothing Toulouse!
Attacks on the long-term welfare of all US citizens by their elected representatives seem
WASHINGTON POST Says What VDARE.com Has Said For Years—Amnesty/ Immigration Surge "Could Very Well Create A Whole Bunch Of New Democrats”
Demography is Destiny, and America’s deliberate demographic transformation is transforming our politics, though the GOP elite either doesn’t get it or just doesn’t care. The Obama Administration, on the other hand, knows exactly what it’s doing. By expanding Administrative Amnesty, fighting voter ID and in many other ways, it is hastening the transformation of the U.S. to something unrecognizable to the historic American nation.
Recently, Washington Post has confirmed much of what we have been saying through the years here at VDARE.COM, though written from a different point of view.
First was a blog post by Chris Cillizza (who has appeared on VDARE.COM before, for example, via James Fulford here.): Republicans have a major demographic problem. And it’s only going to get worse. [Chris Cillizza, Washington Post, April 22, 2014]. Here’s how it begins:
It's no secret that Republicans have a demographic problem when it comes to national elections. In 2012, roughly nine in every ten people who voted for Mitt Romney were white—even as the white vote continued its steady decline as a percentage of the overall electorate. He got crushed among Hispanics and African American voters.
This is indeed no news to VDARE.COM readers or even to the Main Stream Media, which claims it’s a Bad Thing—although mysteriously it’s not Bad that over 90% of blacks vote for the Democrats.
Cillizza’s point is that, unless “something big changes” that this is going to get worse for the GOP as the demographics change, that “…the 2016 presidential election will be a tough one for Republicans to win given the demographic changes in the country but it won't be nearly as difficult for them as the 2024 or 2028 elections could be.”
Thus the youth minority population is growing, which presumably means these younger generations will be producing more Democrats. Using Romney’s results as a base, the trends show the increasing difficulty of Republicans winning presidential elections if the Hispanic share of the electorate increases.
Geography also is a big factor, as Cillizza points out, “It's where the under 20 minority populations live that could prove politically problematic going forward. “ And it’s no longer just the Southwest, in the future it’s potentially the South as well:
The concentration of young minority population in the Southwest and South means that states like Texas and Arizona as well as Georgia and South Carolina—all of which have been conservative redoubts at the presidential level for decades could be in real jeopardy for the party in the medium and long term.”
Thanks a lot, GOP elite, for helping to bring this situation about. Immigration could have been cut way back in the 1990s, in accordance with the recommendations of the bipartisan Jordan Commission (and Peter Brimelow’s 1992 National Review cover story, which became Alien Nation in 1995). But Republicans donors wanted their cheap labor. Look where it’s gotten them.
Cillizza ends the blog post thusly:
Republicans have a demographic problem. And it is going to get way, way worse unless they find a way to improve their numbers among Hispanics.
That sounds like the typical Hispanic Hype, we must surrender to appease the Awakening Hispanic Giant blah blah blah. But not so fast! Shortly after, WaPo ran a follow-up blog post: Why immigration reform isn’t the answer to Republicans’ demographic woes (by Peyton Craighill , April 26, 2014):
We reported on Tuesday about the major demographic problem facing Republicans. So, how can the GOP start
Ann Coulter On The NBA: A Man Of Sterling Character
** NOTE: Some quoted language below may offend readers.**
I had listened to roughly eight hours of commentary on Donald Sterling and the ugly remarks he made in conversations secretly tape-recorded by his girlfriend, before I heard anyone mention a wife.
HE HAS A WIFE?
At first, I thought the topic must have changed when I left the room, but no—the TV talking heads were still discussing Sterling advising his girlfriend to stay away from blacks.
Not only does Sterling have a wife of 50 years, but earlier this year, she sued his girlfriend, demanding the return of two Bentleys, a Ferrari, a Range Rover and a $1.8 million apartment, claiming it was bought with community property without the wife's consent.
The fact that this 80-year-old human-manatee, married with three children, has been openly consorting with prostitutes for decades does not account for 1 percent of the media's outrage against Sterling.
Wow. Cultural mores certainly do change. In 1947, it was a scandal when Brooklyn Dodgers manager Leo Durocher was alleged to have been having an affair with a married actress, Laraine Day.
Durocher himself was not married, but Day, a Mormon who never smoked or drank, divorced her husband and married Durocher the day after being granted a provisional divorce decree. The divorce wasn't final, so the judge who signed the decree ordered Day and Durocher to live separately in California. (Yes, this was so long ago, the institution of marriage was still respected in California.)
And they did. She lived with her mother in Santa Monica and Durocher moved into a nearby hotel.
Yet and still, the Catholic Youth Organization withdrew its support for the Brooklyn Dodgers and advised its members to boycott the team as long as Durocher remained manager.
As Brooklyn CYO director Rev. Vincent J. Powell explained in a letter, Durocher was not the sort of person "we want our youth to idealize and imitate," adding that the CYO could not be "officially associated with a man who presents an example in contradiction to our moral teachings."
Durocher was suspended from the Dodgers for a year, purportedly over some long-standing gambling charges.
And that was in New York City! The reaction might have been a bit rougher in Kansas City, Mo., or Grosse Pointe, Mich.
Today, a team owner can sit with his mistress at games, give her millions
Releasing Criminal Aliens Next Step In Left’s Drive To Elect A New People
Pride comes before the fall, and the anti-American Left is flaunting its arrogance with its latest campaign—freeing criminal aliens from detention. This time, the push isn’t coming from the Regime, but cultural Marxists in the Main Stream Media and local government.
Thus a recent editorial in Salem OR’s Statesman Journal:
Cities, counties and states do not belong in the immigration-enforcement business. Instead, they must follow the Constitution.
The latest evidence came last week. Marion, Polk and several other Oregon counties stopped jailing foreign-born individuals who were being held for up to 48 hours simply at the request of federal immigration officials.
The decision to stop that practice might sound like sacrilege, but it’s prudence. In many cases, residing in the United States unlawfully is not a crime; it is a violation of civil law. But the even greater issue is that we are a country of freedom. One of our foundational beliefs is that the government should not detain people without cause.
[Editorial: Judge, Jails Right On Immigration , April 19, 2014]
But the government is not detaining people “without cause.” The cause is Federal law. The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) Section 236 and Title 8 of the United States Code, Section 1226, authorizes the arrest and detention of aliens who are deportable or inadmissible. In fact, the authority to hold an alien is not even reviewable by a court.
The Statesman-Journal editorial continues:
A federal judge ruled a week ago that Clackamas County had broken that principle: It violated a woman’s constitutional rights by holding her for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (known as ICE) without a court order to do so. The magistrate’s decision followed a similar ruling last month from the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
The practical result is that Portland metro and Mid-Valley jails will require more than an immigration detainer—a request from ICE—to hold an undocumented immigrant. Marion County Sheriff Jason Myers and his colleagues have acted appropriately by ending that practice. In doing so, they have set an example for law enforcement across the country.
But officers of the Department of Homeland Security (of which ICE is a part) do have authority to issue warrants for the arrest of aliens. They can also use “detainers” to hold aliens for up to 48 hours. (This is critical because the editorial later claims judges must follow precedent).
The Statesman-Journal editorial assures readers that
[T]heir action does not imply that dangerous criminals will go free. Individuals still will be jailed on criminal charges or if ICE obtains a court order for them to be detained for immigration purposes.
Unfortunately, there is no process for a Federal court to order a local jail to hold a Federal prisoner or immigration violator.
The Statesman-Journal continues:
It would be easy for critics to attack the court rulings as judicial activism, but they are in keeping with American legal precedent. Courts consistently have ruled that immigration is a federal issue. And unlike the judicial systems in much of the world, where individual judges have wide discretion, the U.S. has adopted the British system in which legal consistency—case law and precedents—trump a judge’s personal preferences. [Emphasis added].
But this is precisely a case of a judge’s personal preferences trumping precedent:
- First, precedent is that any State officer can hold a Federal prisoner or immigration detainee. That is how it has been for a hundred years.
- Secondly, detention of aliens is not reviewable by any court.
From Title 8 United States Code, Section 226, Paragraph (e):
(e) Judicial review
The Attorney General’s discretionary judgment regarding the application of this section shall not be subject to review. No court may set aside any action or decision by the Attorney General under this section regarding the detention or release of any alien or the grant, revocation, or denial of bond or parole.
The U.S. Magistrate Judge who issued the order, Janice M. Stewart, (appointed during the Clinton administration) is acting outside the law and precedent. Why? And why is the Main Stream Media also against detaining illegal aliens?
The answer is that Cultural Marxists want amnesty but can’t openly say it. Instead, they create the straw man of a “broken” immigration system.
There is no question that the U.S. immigration system is broken. But any anger at the court’s decision should be directed at Congress, which lacks the political will to rewrite the nation’s outdated and erratic immigration laws. [Emphasis added]
“Outdated and erratic immigration laws?” The Statesman Journal editorial doesn’t explain, but it seems to object to the fact that we have any kind of laws at all.
Actually, our immigration laws are indeed outdated. In the 21st century, you would think that this country would need immigrants with advanced technical training and education. But most of the immigrants who come here have little or no education.
We know that the editorial thumbsuckers at the Statesman Journal are not really worried about excluding foreign PhD’s. These are criminal aliens who are detained that they are trying
Treason Lobbyist Ed Gillespie Wants To Be Virginia’s GOP Senator. Is He The Worst Candidate Ever?
I remember the day I realized that Mitt Romney would lose the 2012 presidential election. The headline read: Ed Gillespie Joins Team Romney [By Jonathan Martin, Politico, April 5, 2010].
As soon as Romney tapped one of the country’s highest-paid and hardest-working cheap labor lobbyists as a senior strategist, it was obvious—or at least it should have been obvious—that his campaign was doomed.
Under the guiding hand of Ed Gillespie, Mitt Romney gradually switched gears, abandoned the many promises of stronger enforcement that he made during the primaries and began to signal renewed support for Amnesty for illegal aliens. Not surprisingly (at least to us VDARE.co readers), this reversal of strategy won him few Hispanic votes and discouraged many whites from voting at all—and it was low white voter turnout, not the Hispanic vote, that cost Romney the election.
Now Ed Gillespie aspires to take his losing ways to the U.S. Senate by seeking the Republican nomination in Virginia.( He's the favorite, but there are three other minor candidates—the convention is June 7.) His opponent, Democrat Mark Warner (NumbersUSA D), may be no better, but he surely can’t be any worse.
Ed Gillespie has carried a lot of water for the Treason Lobby over the years. From 1985-1995, he served as a top aide to Open Borders fanatic Rep. Dick Armey. Next, he became Communications Director for the Republican National Committee under another Open Borders advocate, Haley Barbour.
In 2000, Gillespie joined the presidential campaign of George W. Bush where one of his duties was to oversee the 2000 Republican National Convention. Gillespie deliberately sought to strike a multicultural theme among the convention speakers in order to attract more minority votes (remember George P. Bush’s telling a Hispanic Republican rally in 2000 that his mother "told me we have to fight for our race”? [Reuters, August 2, 2000]
During that same year, Gillespie founded a “bipartisan” lobbying firm with Jack Quinn, a longtime Democratic operative who served in the Clinton Administration. Quinn is perhaps best known for arranging the infamous pardon of fugitive plutocrat Marc Rich.
Together, Quinn and Gillespie have tirelessly done the bidding of the Cheap Labor Lobby, with clients such as Bank of America, General Electric, Microsoft, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
In 2002, for example, the Justice Department prosecuted Tyson Foods for perpetrating a brazen illegal alien smuggling scheme. Tyson had been smuggling Mexican illegals into the country by paying an immigrant middleman $200 per illegal, and even arranged for phony documents for them. They then paid the illegals low under the table wages at more than a dozen of their chicken processing plants. It’s hard to think of a better example of Big Business contempt for American workers.
So when Tyson Foods was finally busted, who did they hire to do damage control? Quinn Gillespie Associates, who conveniently blamed our “broken immigration system” for the scam rather than their clients.
Indeed, it is hard to think of anything that better illustrates the false paradigm of Democrat v Republican than the partnership of Jack Quinn and Ed Gillespie. While Jack Quinn, like all Democrats, employs the language of race and class warfare to advance a left-wing agenda, Ed Gillespie, like most Republicans, employs patriotic language to reach essentially the same treasonous ends. It’s a difference in style that masks a similarity in substance.
For example, in 2005 Gillespie founded Americans for Border and Economic Security, a Republican political action committee that engaged in superficial tough talk about immigration enforcement but was in substance a slush fund to promote the Open Borders policies of President George W. Bush. Other board members included Dick Armey and former Democratic Rep. Cal Dooley (NumbersUSA F) who left Congress to become an agribusiness lobbyist. Corporations, including Tyson Foods, Walmart, and Microsoft, paid as much as $250,000 for a seat at the table. And you can bet that they didn’t pay that kind of money because they wanted a stronger border fence.
According to The New York Sun, many of the initial meetings of Americans for Border and Economic Security were held in the Washington offices of Quinn Gillespie Associates. [Tough Talk on Illegal Immigration Scaring Bush Business Allies, By Warren Vieth, November 21, 2005]
Gillespie has spearheaded other PACs that trumpet patriotic themes to camouflage nation-breaking objectives, such as The Committee for the Preservation of Capitalism, Defend America,
Donald Sterling And Cliven Bundy Top The News: Is America Still a Serious Country?
Well, it looks like Donald Sterling will not be getting that NAACP lifetime achievement award he was set to receive at the civil rights organization's 100th anniversary celebration in Los Angeles in May.
Allegedly, Sterling's 30-something girlfriend, a model who goes by the name of V. Stiviano, whom Sterling's wife of 50 years is suing, taped these remarks of the 80-year-old owner of the L.A. Clippers:
"You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it ... and not to bring them to my games.
" ... Don't put him [Magic Johnson] on an Instagram for the world to have to see ... and don't bring him to my games."
This rant of the octogenarian owner swept the canonization of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II right off of page one of the New York Times, whose headline blared:
The Times story told of how Clippers' players turned their warm-up sweatshirts inside out and donned black socks and black wristbands in protest of Sterling's remarks.
Not exactly John Lewis at Selma Bridge. And, still, the Clippers got waxed in the playoff game against the Golden State Warriors.
But the Times was not nearly done with this monstrous moral outrage, which even elicited the indignation of President Obama in Malaysia. The banner across the entire sports section of the Times read: "Vortex of Outrage Trails Clippers Owner."
A photo of the team standing solemnly in their red warm-up suits covered half the page, and two Times columnists decried the horror.
Wrote Michael Powell of Sterling: He stands "exposed as a gargoyle, disgorging racial and sexual animosities so atavistic as to take the breath away."
Finally getting his breath back, Powell went on:
"The Clippers players and coaches are no doubt mortified to have awakened in the midst of a playoff run to find that they are working for the Bull Connor of Southern California."
But how could Sterling be the Bull Connor of California
Immigration Moratorium The Answer To Left’s Inequality Campaign, But Boehner’s GOP Prefers To Die For Its Donors
John Boehner mocked his own caucus last week, frankly declaring his allegiance to the American oligarchy of GOP donors lusting for cheap labor. But Democrats may get the last laugh, as political momentum is unmistakably building behind media darling Thomas Piketty’s plan for redistributive taxes on the wealthy. This is a both a dangerous crisis and a priceless opportunity for immigration patriots and National Conservatives—but they’ll need to take on a Stupid Party that seems determined to prove Karl Marx right.
After all, how can the Reds lose when the orange-skinned buffoon masquerading as the Republican Speaker of the House of Representatives attacked his own colleagues for saying it was “hard” to pass Amnesty. Boehner then pretended to cry, an unfortunate tactic for a man who can’t seem to keep himself from weeping in public. It’s also the exact opposite of the political reality for House Republicans. They are under extraordinary pressure, from racial terrorism, corporate bribes, and Main Stream Media hysteria, to sell out the historic American nation.
Quin Hillyer at National Review guessed that Boehner must be stepping down after this “adolescent” attack that gave “no credit” to the good faith of his fellow Republicans. [Boehner Must Be Stepping Down as Speaker, April 25, 2014]. Even Rep. Raul Labrador, hardly a militant on the issue, expressed “disappointment” with the Speaker for “catering to the media and special interest groups.” [Labrador Slams Boehner Immigration Comments, by Eliana Johnson, National Review, April 25, 2014]
But the special interest group that is most important to Republicans like Boehner is the Donor Class. And, unfortunately for America, it is important to Conservatism Inc. too. Thus National Review published the same day some Open Borders agitprop, arguing for replacement of America’s “static” population in favor of more skilled and unskilled immigrants who show the “courage,” “selflessness,” and “risk-taking” that we evidently lack. The authors, unsurprisingly, are talk radio executive Lee Habeeb and Sheldon Adelson employee and gambling executive Mike Leven. [Immigration, America’s Advantage]. Left undiscussed, needless to say: the sweeping political transformation inevitable in the new Hispanic United States. Hispanics want, and will impose
Obama’s Illegal Alien Magnet Kills Another Child
The Obama mega-magnet for aliens to enter the United States by any means necessary is drawing ever more unaccompanied minors. America! Now with even fewer deportations, so come on over! The DREAM Act, rejected by Congress, has been substantially enacted by Obama’s mighty pen all by his lonesome, so kids are particularly targeted.
But some don’t make it—like 12-year-old Ecuadoran Noemi Álvarez Quillay who hanged herself in a Juarez children’s shelter in March. She had gotten half-way on the journey earlier and didn’t want to go again. But her illegal alien parents insisted:
Noemi Álvarez Quillay took the first steps of the 6,500-mile journey to New York City from the southern highlands of Ecuador on Tuesday, Feb. 4, after darkness fell.
A bashful, studious girl, Noemi walked 10 minutes across dirt roads that cut through corn and potato fields, reaching the highway to Quito. She carried a small suitcase. Her grandfather Cipriano Quillay flagged down a bus and watched her board. She was 12.
From that moment, and through the remaining five weeks of her life, Noemi was in the company of strangers, including coyotes — human smugglers, hired by her parents in the Bronx to bring her to them. Her parents had come to the United States illegally and settled in New York when Noemi was a toddler.
Noemi was part of a human flood tide that has swelled since 2011: The United States resettlement agency expects to care for nine times as many unaccompanied migrant children in 2014 as it did three years ago.
For these children wandering thousands of miles, it is a grueling journey, filled with dangers. The vast majority come from Central America. Noemi's trip was about twice as long. She had already tried once, leaving home last May, but was detained long before she even made it halfway.
"I went with a coyote and spent two months in Nicaragua and came back from there," she wrote in a school information sheet.
Stix Vindicated! Academics, Magazine Confirm Big City Police Are “Disappearing” Crime
Exactly ten years ago, May 26, 2004, I published my first major VDARE.com exposé of how big-city police departments were systematically fudging statistics to “disappear” urban crime. Now a white-hot exposé in Chicago Magazine, and a major academic study, have confirmed I was right. I don’t get credit, of course, but whatcha gonna do.
Journalists David Bernstein and Noah Isackson write:
With the stroke of a computer key, [Tiara Groves] was airbrushed out of Chicago’s homicide statistics….
For the case of Tiara Groves is not an isolated one. Chicago conducted a 12-month examination of the Chicago Police Department’s crime statistics going back several years, poring through public and internal police records and interviewing crime victims, criminologists, and police sources of various ranks. We identified 10 people, including Groves, who were beaten, burned, suffocated, or shot to death in 2013 and whose cases were reclassified as death investigations, downgraded to more minor crimes, or even closed as noncriminal incidents—all for illogical or, at best, unclear reasons.
And it’s not just corpses that get misclassified:
This troubling practice goes far beyond murders, documents and interviews reveal. Chicago found dozens of other crimes, including serious felonies such as robberies, burglaries, and assaults, that were misclassified, downgraded to wrist-slap offenses, or made to vanish altogether….
Of course, this calls into question the much-touted improvement in crime rates in Chicago as nationwide:
And has there ever been improvement. Aside from homicides, which soared in 2012, the drop in crime since Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy arrived in May 2011 is unprecedented—and, some of his detractors say, unbelievable. Crime hasn’t just fallen, it has freefallen: across the city and across all major categories.
[The Truth About Chicago’s Crime Rates, May 2014.]
Chicago has several huge Main Stream Media operations, including the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, and the network affiliates. Yet none of them broke this story. Instead, Chicago Magazine commissioned a year-long investigation, supported its reporters as they devoted hundreds of hours to the gumshoe work, and had the guts to publish their findings.
The MSM giants didn’t commission an investigation—because they didn’t want to know the truth.
I’ve been mocking the Chicago PD’s numbers for three years (also here) because they were so manifestly phony. Going back to Police Superintendent Jodi Weis in 2009, for over 30 months, the CPD would report astronomical numbers of shootings and murders every month, even for Chicago, while asserting that “overall crime is down.”
As a practical matter, it is impossible for shootings and murders to remain constant or rise, while crime overall declines.
It was, to my knowledge, the Philadelphia PD that pioneered
What Exactly Did Cliven Bundy Say That A) Was Wrong; B) Paul Ryan Didn’t Already Say?
Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher who has been at the center of one of those periodic heartland standoffs that totally baffle and enrage the American elite, is now also the center of an all-too-typical American elite Politically Correct hysteria about, you guessed it, “racism.”
Bundy, in Robert E. Lee’s wonderful phrase, is not a professional soldier but a citizen who has taken up arms for his country, and he may yet be mau maued into performing the usual pointless ritual grovel, but as pointed out here by Paul Kersey at the time of the Paula Deen hysteria, this stuff is wearing very thin. (Kersey was proved right by the subsequent Duck Dynasty hysteria, when alpha duck Phil Robertson simply faced down the Cultural Marxist mob).
More importantly, as I said at greater length last fall, unless the extraordinary power of this “racism” smear is faced and discredited, American immigration patriots cannot begin to reclaim their country.
Needless to say, the putative professionals who have been supporting, or at least profiting, from Bundy are now running for the hills. [See A List of Cliven Bundy's Supporters, Now That We Know He's a Pro-Slavery Racist, by Arit John, Abby Olsheiser, TheWire.com, April 24, 2014]. This emphatically includes Senator Rand Paul, who is quoted continuing his ignominious slide into self-defeating left-libertarianism by intoning piously that “His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him.”
(One remarkable exception: Arizona state Sen. Kelli Ward wrote in an e-mail to The Washington Post:
Apparently he has some thoughts that aren't shared by many Americans. He is free to think and speak as he chooses (even if it may offend) and we are free to listen (or not) and form our own opinions. I am thankful for our amazing Constitution and the 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech — if I don't agree, I don't seek to silence or shame the speaker or to paint his associates with the broad brush of collective condemnation.
Rand Paul and other Republican leaders back away from Bundy, By Jaime Fuller, Washington Post, April 24, 2014.
(Ward did add that she “disagrees with Bundy’s statements to the [New York Times]” But she pioneered here an impregnable line of defense that all the Republican Party’s high-priced consultants apparently couldn’t come up with.)
There are only two points to be made about this ridiculous witch hunt:
- Cliven Bundy’s other views are utterly irrelevant to his dispute with the Federal Bureau of Land Management.
VDARE.com has not previously commented on the Bundy vs. BLM story because of our single-minded focus on immigration and the National Question. For what it’s worth, my own cursory reading suggests Bundy may well be legally in the wrong, arguably on technicalities, but the federal reaction was extraordinary and further evidence of the disturbing brutalization of U.S. law enforcement, which combines paradoxically with its abject collapse in other areas i.e. border security. After Ruby Ridge and Waco, nothing can be ruled out.
Nevertheless, Bundy’s comments about blacks are completely irrelevant to the legal and moral issues raised by his dispute with the federal government. There is absolutely no reason why the people who supported him before should not go on supporting him now—except, of course, cowardice and stupidity.
To give an historical parallel: during World War I, the campaign to save the Irish nationalist Sir Roger Casement from execution for conspiring to have Germany arm what ultimately became the Easter Rising was derailed by leaked evidence that he was a promiscuous pederast. Strictly speaking, of course, Casement’s sexuality was irrelevant to the question of whether or not he should be hanged for treason. But at that time, it was decisive.
Today, of course, if Cliven Bundy had been revealed to be a pederast, he would be paid millions in damages by every government agency in sight.
- What EXACTLY is wrong with what Cliven Bundy said anyway?
Here is his entire statement, as lovingly recorded by the New York Times’ Adam Nagourney [A Defiant Rancher Savors the Audience That Rallied to His Side, April 23, 2014]:
“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.
“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”
Rich Lowry [Send him mail] Editor of the post-purge National Review, eager to burnish his credentials as a house-broken MSM Token Conservative, says “This is so stupid and noxious it isn’t really worth rebutting.”
But, of course it’s not, as the links helpfully added by VDARE.com show—if you actually think, as oppose to emoting (and, in Lowry’s case, truckling). It makes a series of factual
Memo From Middle America | It’s No Joke—Russian-Style Cross-Border Ethnic Meddling Is Coming To America. In Fact, It’s Already Here.
The crisis in Ukraine illustrates the rise of ethnic politics and secession—and mass Mexican immigration into America means it is coming here. Conservatives treat this as fodder for satire today, but it will be in the headlines tomorrow.
Ukraine and Russia are attempting to protect their interests and the key weapon has been ethnic populations. Crimea’s referendum contained irregularities, but what’s undeniable is that the ethnic composition of the population resulted in support for a union with Russia. Though they may have been technically citizens of Ukraine, many Crimeans were Russians in heart and spirit and when the status quo collapsed, the Bear was able to exploit it.
Of course, American Exceptionalism holds that rules just don’t apply to us. Thus on March 23, a piece appeared on the The Daily Caller entitled Mexico sees Russian gambit in Ukraine as chance for American land grab, by Eric Owens, labeled “satire”:
On Friday, in Geneva, Mexico signaled alarm at the treatment of its large Mexican minority in the United States, comparing American actions to prevent the use of Spanish to attempts in Ukraine and Estonia to prevent the use of Russian…
Russia has maintained that annexation of the Crimea peninsula is justified because it has the right to protect Russian speakers outside of Russia’s borders. Mexican political leaders have taken note, perhaps sensing an opportunity to gain long-lost territory and increase the size of its economy by expanding northward into areas currently administered by the United States.
Mexico has begun enthusiastically supporting protections for linguistic minorities, a Mexico City diplomat told the United Nations Human Rights Council. “Language must not be used to segregate and isolate groups,” the diplomat said, according to details provided to The Daily Caller by the U.N. Mexico has officially expressed concern about “steps taken in this regard by belligerent elements in the United States.”…The Mexican diplomat then forthrightly compared the treatment of Mexicans in the United States to the treatment of Russian speakers in Ukraine. Mexico, the diplomat said, has the right to protect Spanish speakers who have migrated without documentation to the United States in search of economic opportunity. He further noted that, unlike in Ukraine, these migrants very often remain full Mexican citizens.
Owens’ article was patterned on a March 19 Reuters article by Robert Evans: Moscow signals concern for Russians in Estonia:
“Russia signaled concern on Wednesday at Estonia’s treatment of its large ethnic Russian minority, comparing language policy in the Baltic state with what it said was a call in Ukraine to prevent the use of Russian. Russia has defended its annexation of Ukraine’s Crimea peninsula by arguing it has the right to protect Russian-speakers outside its borders, so the reference to linguistic tensions in another former Soviet republic comes at a highly sensitive moment"
But Owens’ satire cited actions and statements similar to things the Mexican government has already actually done and said.
In Ukraine, you had the volatile mix of
- A large ethnic-Russian minority, dominant in certain regions of the country.
- A meddlesome neighboring county, with which this minority identifies.
- A change of government in the Ukraine and a breakdown in relations between Ukraine and Russia.
In America, you have:
- A large Mexican minority, increasingly resistant to assimilation, and pandered to by the government.
- A neighboring country, Mexico, which meddles in American politics and works to retain or attract the loyalty of the Mexican-American minority.
- A change in the American government, which no longer demands assimilation and now promotes non-assimilation.
Mexico openly tries to manipulate its neighbor by using its expatriate population
Ann Coulter: What You Won't Read In The Papers About The 'Central Park Five'
[See also “It Was Fun”—Robert K. Tanenbaum vs. The Central Park Five, 25 Years Later, and Peter Brimelow's 1989 London Times reaction Beasts In The Park]
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio is demanding a quick settlement of the lawsuit brought by the five men convicted of one of the most sickening crimes in the city's history: the attack on the Central Park jogger in 1989.
The plaintiffs are demanding $50 million apiece—for going to prison for a rape that they committed, as detailed in Chapter 13 of "Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Destroying America." Abner Louima got $5.8 million for a shockingly brutal police assault on him, and he was just an innocent bystander.
The "Central Park Five," as PBS documentarian Ken Burns has dubbed them, aren't exactly Emmett Till (as Burns would have you believe). Even if they were innocent of the Central Park rape, which they aren't, the reason they were originally arrested was that they were rampaging through the park, assaulting people.
Even after they began denying the rape, the defendants continued to admit committing these other attacks. How'd you like to be one of the people badly beaten in the park that night watching your tax dollars go to pay your assailants millions of dollars?
All those convictions—on the rape as well as the assaults—have been vacated because an aging district attorney wanted a glowing obituary in The New York Times.
In 2002, the ancient Robert Morgenthau, Manhattan district attorney, issued a report recommending that the convictions in the Central Park rape case be vacated. Justice Charles Tejada (Fordham Law 2009 Hispanic Heritage Award winner!) granted his request.
Liberals are opposed to rape in the abstract, but when it comes to actual rapists, they're all for them.
The D.A.'s report was based solely on the confession of Matias Reyes, career criminal, serial rapist and murderer. Reyes had absolutely nothing to lose by confessing to the rape—the statute of limitations
Now The $Lave Power Wants To Hand U.S. Defense Jobs To Low-Cost Foreigners
The appalling Jeb Bush is continuing his campaign to destroy the historic American nation, demanding that corporations receive more “H1-B visas for the high tech industry.” [Jeb Bush pushes amnesty, more high-tech visas at education conference, by Tony Lee, Breitbart, April 22, 2014] His fellow propagandists for the Slave Power are already advancing the perfect argument to justify it—national security is now just another job that Americans won’t do.
At any other time and in any other country, the idea that weapons research should be outsourced to foreigners would be the definition of treason. But America is no longer a nation, and so we get corporate lobbyist Gary Shapiro [email him] of the Consumer Electronics Association in the Washington Post lecturing Americans on why they need to do more to safeguard the defense industry’s taxpayer guaranteed profits. Shapiro’s spiel was less an Op-Ed than a paid corporate advertisement—but with today’s Main Stream Media, who can tell the difference?
Encouraging bright minds to stay in the United States after graduation, grow businesses and create jobs is critical to secure our country’s position as a high-tech hub and global leader in innovation. It’s also important to our national security.
…Many of the tools we need to keep our country safe are born of the minds of tech innovators. But political leaders appear to have given little thought to the national security ramifications of inaction on this issue. It’s time for our politicians to drop their protectionist rhetoric and allow those who come to the United States to study and earn graduate degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields to stay, grow businesses and create.
Our nation’s defense capabilities are increasingly dependent on the latest advances in science and technology. Too often we take for granted that the United States has the world’s most sophisticated communications, weaponry and aerospace technology and equipment. When we lose STEM students, we lose access to their future innovations. Sending top STEM talent away based on outdated immigration laws may actually be putting us in danger.
[How Immigration Reform Could Boost Our National Defense, March 21, 2014]
Needless to say, the blessings of diversity seem not to have touched the higher ranks of the Consumer Electronics Association. The Executive Board has five white men and two white women. (The two women are the Treasurer and Secretary.) And if there is one place where “protectionism” should have a place, it is in discussions of national security.
But what is more disturbing is how Shapiro seemingly ignored any downsides to blithely entrusting military technology to foreigners. The United States is already facing a crisis of Chinese military and corporate espionage. [ Confidential report lists U.S. weapons system designs compromised by Chinese cyberspies, by Ellen Nakashima, Washington Post, May 27, 2013] And of course, “top STEM talent” studying in America constitute a big part of this effort.
Shapiro also made claims that simply aren’t true. For example, he said:
… [L]ast June the Senate passed comprehensive immigration reform legislation by a vote of 68-32. The legislation included provisions allowing immigrants with advanced STEM degrees to become U.S. citizens. Yet the legislation now languishes in the House. Republicans are concerned about leaving enforcement of overall immigration legislation to a president they feel selectively enforces laws. More, they fear Tea Party retribution
