A tweet from journalist Radley Balko,
This is wrong: http://t.co/ygBuLX8VIz Nearly all mass shooters are men, but whites are actually under-represented: http://t.co/JkuZccjpJz

That’s a response to Salon‘s
White guy killer syndrome: Elliot Rodger’s deadly, privileged rage
Can I go ahead and scream yet? It’s time for America to admit what it’s long resisted: White male privilege kills
By Brittney Cooper, Salon, May 27, 2014
I’ve dealt with this myth in an article called Jezebel: “Have You Noticed That White Dudes Keep Mass Murdering People?” No, We`ve Noticed You Promoting It and the related “all serial killers are white” myth in Grim Sleepers? MSM And Hollywood Shut Eyes To Black Serial Killers.
In fact, white privilege kills almost nobody, whereas the varieties of black privilege enshrined in Civil Rights law and the Criminal Justice system kill a lot of people.
“Black privilege” includes
- “Racial profiling “–if you can prove that the cop stopped you because of your race, the evidence of your actual guilt can be made to vanish.
- Anti-death penalty activism based on race: if you are black, and sentenced to death, the NAACP will try to save your life no matter how guilty you are. In Furman v. Georgia (1972) the Supreme Court shut down the death penalty in the entire country for four years, because they were concerned about the racial implications.

This is who Salon author Brittney Cooper is, and why she thinks that way:

But white people who work for Salon think that way, too.
