#AbolishIce is not just a hashtag, and its supporters are not looking for a kinder, gentler version of border control.

• Last month, Rep. Mark Pocan, a Wisconsin Democrat, introduced the first-ever piece of legislation to eliminate the agency. The call was echoed by scads of legislators and candidates around the country.

• In cities including Portland, Detroit, Los Angeles, and New York, "Occupy ICE" protests have sprung up outside detention facilities.

• Local governments are refusing to cooperate with ICE. In one case, Orange County, VA authorities released an illegal immigrant convicted child molester back in to the public rather than notify ICE that he was available for deportation.

• In Portland, OR a disabled Marine veteran was at his first day as an intern for ICE when the building was surrounded by Open Borders activists. He managed to escape, despite his car being scratched and his tires slashed. But he was followed, and later while picking up his daughter from camp, his calls for help were reportedly ignored by the police, who told him that they are staying out of the situation.

"Abolish ICE a pretty good example of a calculated political risk that is paying off," tweeted liberal columnist and Vox editor Matt Yglesias.

Risking the safety and security of the American people will never pay off.
