A gimlet-eyed reader, following the link to Peter Ackroyd’s biography of Thomas More in my Saturday post, emailed in with the observation that:

From your own citation we learn that Luther had a bit of a potty mouth as well.

Indeed he did, Sir:  but then, he was German.
