Soren Dayton's Guilt-By-Association Attack On Patriotism In The DAILY CALLER

Soren Dayton [Message him on Twitter] describes himself in his Twitter Profile as "Prism Public Affairs, Republican political operative, blogger, husband, cook. All opinions my own." Actually, his opinions aren't his own—they're extremely derivative.

Why Is The Republican Party Embracing Amnesty?

During President Eisenhower’s first term, 60 years ago, the United States faced an invasion across its southern border.

Illegal aliens had been coming since World War II. But, suddenly, the number was over 1 million. Crime was rising in Texas. The illegals were taking the jobs of U.S. farm workers.

"Philadelphia Freedom" Not Available For Anyone “White in Philly” Who Tells The Truth About Crime

Philadelphia Freedom Not Available For Anyone “White in Philly” Who Tells The Truth About Crime"Philadelphia Freedom"? Philadelphia will hold an urgent public meeting to discuss the most important issue in the city today (April 18).  It's not crime, education, or urban blight–it's the publication of Being White in Philly, [By Robert Huber, Philadelphia Magazine, March 2013] a magazine article that Mayor Michael Nutter doesn't like.

For the past seven weeks, this almost comically cautious article touching on the liberal white experience in a crime-ridden black city has dominated the news in the City of Brotherly Love. Despite its milquetoast language, it has inadvertently shown just who wants to keep America a “nation of cowards” when it comes to discussing race.

Huber’s piece offered virtually no statistics about the almost-entirely black face of crime in Philadelphia. It relied on interviews with anonymous white Philadelphians too afraid to use their real name because of the totalitarian nature of the climate for racial discourse in America. But it still manages to convey the confused alienation of whites forced to watch the continuing collapse of the society they built.

Mayor Nutter, once a hero to Conservatism Inc. for calling out black flash mobs terrorizing Philadelphia’s streets, [Philadelphia mayor talks tough to black teenagers after ‘flash mobs’,  By Dave Boyer,  Washington Times,  August 8, 2011] has now called on the Orwellian-sounding “Human Rights Commission” to investigate the magazine for possible “incitement.”

Michael NutterIn a letter to Rue Landau, [Email her]the executive director of the so-called Philadelphia Human Rights Commission, Mayor Nutter compared pointing out black failure to yelling “fire” in a crowded theater:

While I fully recognize that constitutional protections afforded the press are intended to protect the media from censorship by the government, the First Amendment, like other constitutional rights, is not an unfettered right, and notwithstanding the First Amendment, a publisher has a duty to the public to exercise its role in a responsible way. I ask the Commission to evaluate whether the “speech” employed in this essay is not the reckless equivalent of “shouting ‘fire!’ in a crowded theater,” its prejudiced, fact-challenged generalizations an incitement to extreme reaction. [PDF]

Philadelphia was the first city in the U.S. to establish a Human Rights Commission and it has become a model for the rest of the country. (They’re epidemic in Canada). They have now evolved into a kind of emotional Affirmative Action for nonwhites in cities around the country.  For example, Commission's take on the tiresome outbreaks of violence in Philadelphia's public school: there has not been enough multicultural education

Similarly, the Commission sees the publication of Being White in Philly as the problem—not the fear of crime and conflict that it describes.

With a veiled threat, the Commission intoned:

“They spoke for you.  We want to hear from you.  Philadelphia painted one picture of intergroup relations in your community.   We want to hear directly from you about intergroup relations in your diverse and changing community.”  [PDF of meeting announcement]

One would think that the article actually contained a forthright defense of white people's right to exist and defend the communities they built.  Of course,

Memo From Middle America | Remind Amnesty Boosters That Mexico Has A Booming Economy And Fifteen Billionaires!

Instead of giving amnesty to these millions of illegal aliens, why don’t we just ask them all to go home?

Amnesty boosters of both parties don’t even consider that possibility. If they were even asked about it, they would probably be shocked. After all, how could we send illegal aliens back to Mexico?

Mexico is often presented both by its defenders and its detractors (for different reasons) as a poverty-stricken country.

Well, Mexico is poor compared to the United States. But it’s not a poor country by world standards.

  • Mexico has the world’s 11th-largest economy and it’s currently booming. One advantage Mexico has over us: its much lower public debt ratio.
  • Mexico’s GDP per capita is $15,300, much lower than that of the U.S. ($49,800) but higher than that of China ($9,100).
  • Mexico ranks a fairly respectable #61 on the UN’s Human Development Index , which is higher than most Latin American countries. (The U.S. is at #3).

And there are plenty of rich Mexicans, many millionaires, in fact. And even some billionaires (dollars, not pesos).

Forbes Magazine annually releases its list of billionaires, and this year the list included fifteen Mexicans. [The Richest People On The Planet 2013,  By Luisa Kroll and Kerry A. Dolan, March 4, 2013] (Last year it listed eleven and eleven the year before that. )

We can learn a lot from the list of Mexican billionaires—about a side of Mexican society rarely presented in the U.S. Mainstream Media. We learn about Mexican-U.S. relations, and the growing links between globalist plutocrats in both countries.

  1. The richest Mexican of all, of course: Carlos Slim, who was also named by Forbes as the 11th most powerful man in the world. Of Lebanese extraction, Slim’s net worth was $73 billion as of February 14th, 2013. Since that date, Slim’s América Móvil stock has fallen, and Slim might actually drop to the second position below that of Bill Gates. But so what, we’re still dealing with scores of billions of dollars.

Slim is a telecoms magnate, with Telmex and América Móvil and all sorts of seemingly-random enterprises he acquires, including soccer teams (2 in Mexico, one in Spain). But did you know that Slim now owns 3% of Apple Inc.?

Of special interest to Americans should be the fact that Slim owns 8% of the New York Times. Given that Slim is a promoter of illegal immigration, do you suppose the New York Times is more likely or less likely to give a fair hearing to the patriot side in the immigration debate? (On the other hand, how good was the NYT on the issue before Slim bought into it in 2009?)

2. The second-wealthiest Mexican, and the world’s 32nd-richest man: Alberto Bailleres Gonzalez, who along with his family has a net worth of $18.2 billion. Bailleres gained his wealth from the mining industry—Mexico is the world’s largest silver producer and mining has been important since colonial times. Bailleres heads up Grupo Bal and Industrias Penoles. Besides mining and metallurgy, Bailleres also has his fingers in retail, insurance, agribusiness, medicine and the FEMSA soft drink bottler (more on that profitable company later).

3. The 40th-richest man in the world, with a net worth of 16.7 billion belonging to him and his family:  German Larrea Mota Velasco. This tycoon also made his fortune through mining, specializing in copper , and his Grupo México also has mines in other parts of Latin America. Larrea’s railroads can reach 71% of Mexico.

4. Ricardo Salinas Pliego  is a media tycoon and runs TV Azteca

America's Empty Slogan: "See Something, Say Something"

In brief remarks to the nation yesterday on the Boston Marathon bombings, President Obama said that "we all have a part to play in alerting authorities. If you see something suspicious, speak up." In Washington, D.C., electronic signs urged commuters to be on guard. Law enforcement, big-city mayors and security experts all echoed that famous post-terrorism refrain: "If you see something, say something."

But who really means it?

In post-9/11 America, the truth is that our politically correct guardians only want you to see, say or do something if it can't be construed by grievance-mongers as racist, sexist, Islamophobic, homophobic, nativist or any other "-ist" or "-ic."

Face it: We live in a self-defeating culture that pays lip service to heroic action in times of crisis, yet brutally punishes the very kind of snap judgments and instant security profiling that make such heroism possible in the first place.

Just take a look at some of the caustic reactions to citizens and watchdogs who stuck out their necks during and after the Boston Marathon bombings. A quick-thinking spectator at the race reportedly tackled a 20-year-old Saudi Arabian student visa holder he believed was acting suspiciously. The student is not considered a suspect at this point, but remains a "person of interest" in the case. The student's home was searched Monday night in Revere, Mass., by a phalanx of law enforcement agencies.

Time magazine correspondent Michael Crowley clucked: "It'll be a real shame if a Saudi guy was tackled and held simply for running in fright—and for being an Arab." Music producer Sledgren took to Twitter to bemoan "prejudice America." Indian television anchor Gargi Rawat called the civilian's actions "sad." Gawker editor Max Read declared: "(T)his poor Saudi kid should sue the guy who tackled him."

For what? For taking all those "See Something, Say Something" ads seriously? Hang him!

If the Saudi student tries to sue, we already know who

Defining America Down—Jose Antonio Vargas (Yech!) And What's At Stake In The Latest Amnesty/ Immigration Surge War

The great Amnesty/ Immigration Surge battle of 2013 is about to begin. (Maybe).  What's at stake is not simply policies or regulations. Congress is in effect about to determine what it means to be “American.”

If this year's treason has a multicultural mascot, it's illegal alien Jose Antonio Vargas. As a coveted diversity “twofer,” both non-white and gay, Vargas (a Filipino not a Mexican, as Steve Sailer  has pointed out—but hey, what can you do?) is a hero to his friends and colleagues in the Main Stream Media, many of whom actively assisted in his law-breaking.

Note: Vargas is not called a hero because he served America in war, or rendered some public service. Objectively speaking, it's doubtful that the real problem facing the United States is a critical lack of homosexual journalists who think America is “racist.”

No, Vargas is a hero to Obama’s America precisely because he despises it—and wants to remake it.

Vargas’ law-breaking has been both blatant and public. In 2011, the New York Times published his lengthy description of his illegal activities. [My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant, By Jose Antonio Vargas, June 22, 2011]MSM reaction was ecstatic. Since then, Vargas has spoken before television cameras, college campuses, and even Congress. TIME magazine has put him on its cover.Time Vargas Cover And, needless to say, there has been no attempt to enforce “strategic deportation” against this astonishingly arrogant criminal.

In a typically overwrought and verbose article, Vargas even attempts to answer the obvious question of why he hasn't been deported. After a few thousand words of moralistic hectoring, he recounts that he personally contacted Immigration & Customs Enforcement to ask what ICE planned to do with him. Astonishingly, even though Vargas's illegal status had been quite literally broadcast across the entire country, ICE said they had no record of his existence, even as an ICE agent spoke on the phone with him about his criminal status. [Not Legal, Not Leaving,  Time.com, June 25, 2012]

As Vargas himself asserts, the “game changer” in the immigration debate has been the “coming out” of illegals around the country. Of course, such a tactic is only possible precisely because of the federal government's treasonous indulgence of illegals. It is the federal government's treasonous indulgence that

Amnesty Means Gang Nation And The Rule Of Crime (Except For The Rich)

My personal Ground Zero for Obama/ Rubio Amnesty/ Immigration Surge bill: On the Rockaway Peninsula, where we live, Hispanic immigrants and their families have taken over a public beach in an area that is over 90 percent working class white.

Prior to Hurricane Sandy, my son and I would often walk the now-washed-away boardwalk and pass by the beach, at Beach 116th Street. Little Hispanic boys as young as eight years old would stare daggers at us, as if we were trespassing on their property.

These people had come from as far away as the Bronx, on the A train and the Q53 bus, which terminate there.

Of course, if we went to a public park in “their” neighborhoods, we’d be taking our lives in our hands.

A luxury condominium building, the Ocean Grande, was built in 2006 at the corner of the boardwalk and Beach 116th to 117th streets. Before the first Minority Mortgage Meltdown in 2008, the Ocean Grande’s penthouse apartments were selling for $1.5 million each. The selling point: not just the view, but the leisure of being able to walk out the boardwalk door to the beach, a mere 20 feet away.

The apartments were initially sold during the offseason, when the beach was bare except for local whites jogging and walking their dogs. A picture currently sells the same image of blissful, solitary jogging.

White jogger

A realtor’s current ad picture for Ocean Grande: “A slice of shore-life paradise…”

But when the summer came, the Ocean Grande’s homeowners had a rude awakening. They couldn’t use their own beach. Ninety-five percent of the beachgoers were hostile Hispanics, with a smattering of blacks.

For years, people who work nearby have complained to me that there are fights on the beach every hot day (the gangs stay away on moderate summer days) and occasional gunfire; and that the young Hispanics cause nothing but trouble in their businesses, spend little money there, and drive away regular customers.

More recently, the Hispanics seized Beach 117th and 118th streets, as well. Last summer, they stretched their stranglehold into the 120s.

There have been two types of Main Stream Media [MSM] responses to the Hispanic takeover of the beach.

  • The local Rockaway weekly newspaper, The Wave, will report on the beach violence, without mentioning its ethnic character.
  • Big Media alternates between ignoring the trouble most of the time, and turning the racial reality upside down.

Thus in 2008, Daily News columnist Denis Hamill wrote a Bizarro World column in which he complained of the “racism” whereby the city staffed “white” beaches with more lifeguards than “black” beaches.[ Beach disparity in Rockaway is a black and white issue, August 11, 2008,] He acted as if Beach 116th Street were a “mostly minority” area. (See this rejoinder),

Gangs and Hispanics are inseparable. Hispanics seem to have a collectivist mentality, in which joining gangs is the norm.

And we are seeing it here in the Rockaways. Last year, The Wave columnist Beachcomber reported that MS-13 markings have been found on Beach 113 Street and quoted the FBI describing the gang as “the most vicious gang in the nation.” And police finally caught an illegal alien, the last of three MS-13 members involved in an earlier gang killing on Beach 12th Street [MS-13 Gangbanger Busted In 2010 Beach Slay, By Howard Schwach, March 6, 2012]

MS-13 is based in El Salvador. Until recent years, it admitted only Salvadorans as members. However, the clamor to join the gang is now so great, and the opportunity to expand its murder-based power and

The Fulford File | Diversity Is Strength! It’s Also…Repression. And “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” (=Amnesty) Means More Of It.

The news that VDARE.com is apparently on the U.S. Army's list of hate groups has been pointed to us by several readers (thanks!). The story broke last week:

The following is an email written by a lieutenant colonel at Fort Campbell in Kentucky — advising three dozen subordinates to be on the lookout for soldiers who might be members of “domestic hate groups.”

This email was obtained exclusively by Fox News. Names have been redacted.

Subject: Domestic “Hate Groups” (UNCLASSIFIED)

Classification: UNCLASSIFIED

Caveats: FOUO

Leaders,

Many events have been taking place across the country – just want to ensure everyone is somewhat educated on some of the groups out there that do not share our Army Values.

When we see behaviors that are inconsistent with Army Values – don’t just walk by – do the right thing and address the concern before it becomes a problem.

We need to make sure that we maintain our standards – starting with reception and integration.

Thanks   [The Army’s List of “Domestic Hate Groups”, By Todd Starnes, Fox News, April 10, 2013]

The reference to " reception and integration" is Army talk for explaining to newly arrived soldiers how this particular command does things. The "Caveat" FOUO above means "For Official Use Only", which is not the same as "Classified", but probably means "Please don't forward this to Fox News." The full text of the email is now available (PDF). Note the names of the addressees.

Fortunately, the Army is (currently) full of regular Americans who don't appreciate this nonsense.

Someone in the Army forwarded this email to Fox, and the sender has been identified as Army Lt. Col. Jack Rich. [Army Email Labels Christian Ministries as “Domestic Hate Groups”, by Todd Starnes, April 9, 2013]

This particular email includes on its list of hate groups in alphabetical order, starting with "Anti-Gay" groups like the Family Research Council (which as a result of this kind of demonization was actually fired upon by black, gay gunman Floyd Corkins), the American Family Association and others from what the memo calls the "Christian Right." It states, in a direct attack on the religion of the great majority of actual soldiers

Opposition to equal rights for gays and lesbians has been a central theme of Christian Right organizing and fundraising for the past three decades—a period that parallels the fundamentalist movement’s rise to political power.

Google informs me that this is a direct, word-for-word steal from the Southern Poverty Law Center ($PLC)'s Intelligence Files under the heading Anti-Gay.

Of course, until very recently, the Army itself was an "Anti-Gay Group," not just because

Will Texas Turn Blue? (Yet Another Reason To Fight Amnesty)

"The University of Texas will change its colors to maroon and white before Texas goes purple, much less blue," Gov. Rick Perry has reportedly claimed. [Texas to go Democrat blue? Gov. Perry says fat chance, by Dan Hirschhorn, New York Daily News, February 25, 2013]

It’s a Texas in-joke. Maroon and white are the colors of UT’s rival, Texas A&M.

Perry, and indeed many Texans, seem confident that it won’t happen, but if present demographic trends continue, can Texas avoid turning Democratic?

Consider what this would mean. Texas has 38 electoral votes. If Texas moved to the Democratic column, would the GOP—or any party besides the Democratic Party —be able to win a presidential election?

Texans have a lot of pride. Many of them believe that the state will always preserve its distinctive nature.

But how can they be so sure? The  state’s growing Hispanic population   goes hand-in-hand with a growth in the Democratic Party.

Check out this electoral map of the 2012 election. The blue areas are, not coincidentally, the high-Hispanic concentration areas.

The closer to the border, the bluer the county gets

The Democrats are certainly counting on demographic change to win the state. They’ve formed several organizations to reach that goal, such as Battleground Texas, headed up by Jeremy Bird, who was the Obama reelection campaign’s national field director: Democrats launch plan to turn Texas blue , By Alexander Burns, Politico, January 24, 2013.

Read the piece—it’s blatantly about swamping the historic Texas majority with immigrants, not even a pretense of converting anybody through democratic debate. How much more treasonous can you get?

Among the stars of Texas Democrats: the Castro Brothers—not Fidel and Raul in Cuba, but identical twin brothers  Julian Castro, the mayor of San Antonio, and Joaquin Castro representing Texas 20th , the US congressional district comprising the west of the city.

Julian Castro got to deliver the keynote address at last summer’s Democratic convention and was hyped as the first Hispanic keynote speaker—just as an obscure U.S. Senator, Barack Obama (D.-IL) was chosen to deliver the 2004 Democratic keynote address.

Clearly, influential forces in the Democratic Party are grooming Julian for the White House. Why not? The same machine that delivered two Obama victories against an incompetent and cowardly GOP could pull off another “historic first”.

Julian Castro recently spoke to the Texas Democratic Party and the Unity Campaign of the El Paso County Democratic Party:

San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro, considered a rising star in the Democratic Party, told about 400 people Thursday [February 28th] that the state will not move forward until the Republican majority is booted

Italian-Americans Accepted the Challenge Of Americanism—Why Can’t Hispanics?

Everyone in the world is telling the GOP (which is stupid enough to believe them) that immigration restriction would make Hispanics hate them forever.  But why didn’t it work that way with Italians?

"This is America and we speak English!" wasn't the cry out of outraged "nativists" —it was the motto of a whole generation of Italian-American immigrants. My grandfather immigrated to the United States from Italy and made a conscious effort to assimilate to the culture of his new home, including making my father speak English at all times.  I never at any time heard either of them complain about the 1921-1924 immigration cut-off.

My grandfather wasn't alone. Italian-Americans have a long history of advocating for patriotic immigration reform even after first achieving representation in the United States Congress. According to historian John Higham's seminal Strangers in the Land: Patterns of American Nativism: 1860–1925, the first Italian-American to be elected to Congress was Anthony Caminetti, the native born son of a Sicilian immigrant. Caminetti was elected to the US House of Representatives from the state of California in the 1890's. However, his largest impact on national policy came when he was named Commissioner General of Immigration by President Woodrow Wilson in 1913.

Caminetti implemented an “America First” migration program that would impact policy for decades. He believed in the maintenance of America's historic demographic majority and strongly campaigned against immigration from Asia. In this, he was only echoing the wishes of his constituents, as he entered Congress ten years after the California congressional delegation and the Knights of Labor had been instrumental in pushing through the Chinese Exclusion Act. He also introduced "inspection abroad" programs to ensure that unsuitable candidates for immigration would be dissuaded before even sailing to American shores.

As someone who put the United States first, Caminetti was the progenitor of a whole tradition of Italian-American patriots. Clearly at the top of the list is former Rep. Tom Tancredo, whose yeoman work in the House of Representatives sank George W. Bush's push for amnesty and earned him the hatred of Karl Rove and the GOP Establishment.

Another patriotic immigration reformer of Italian descent is the former Mayor

Object Lesson: "Temporary" Amnesty Never Dies

Does America lack "compassion" and "humanity" for uninvited foreigners? Quite the contrary. While open-borders activists rail against "injustice" and demand new "pathways to citizenship," official U.S. policy rewards countless line-jumpers with permanent residency and taxpayer-subsidized benefits.

Case in point: the massive "Temporary Protected Status" (TPS) program run by the Department of Homeland Security.

In theory, as the DHS website describes it, the Secretary of Homeland Security "may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country's nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately." Those conditions include hurricanes, environmental catastrophes, civil war, epidemics and other "extraordinary and temporary conditions."

The U.S. allows illegal aliens from TPS-designated countries to live here, work here, be protected from detention or deportation, and travel freely. It's essentially a bad-weather pass into the U.S. Whenever a natural disaster strikes, we allow legions of foreigners who entered illegally—mostly from Latin America—to stay here while their homelands recover.

In the meantime, TPS winners can apply for a panoply of other immigration benefits and protections and file for "adjustment of status" to pave the way to permanent legalization. In fact, the official draft application for Obamacare lists "Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Applicant for Temporary Protected Status (TPS)" as an "eligible immigration status."

Yep, that means you don't even have to be a legit, approved TPS designee to qualify for

First Encounters of the Close Kind: John Derbyshire’s Address To The 2013 American Renaissance Conference

Introduction

Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. First please allow me to introduce myself.

My name is John Derbyshire. I am a freelance writer, the author of five books—soon to be six. Copies of my last book, number five, are available at the book table.

I’d like to tell you how I came to be addressing an American Renaissance conference. It’s a curious story with an amusing twist of irony in it.

*

I saw Jared Taylor’s book Paved With Good Intentions reviewed in National Review Magazine [by VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow(!) here] when it came out twenty years ago. I liked the book and became a subscriber to the American Renaissance newsletter.

Four or five years after that I myself became a regular contributor to National Review. At about that time Jared and I struck up an occasional email acquaintance. I had dinner with him once or twice when he was visiting New York.

In September 2006 I debated Jared at the Robert A. Taft Club in Arlington, Va. You can find the text of my talk on my website, and I think AR has a sound recording of the whole event on their site somewhere. Jared was kind enough to put me up overnight at his home in Virginia, and I had the pleasure of meeting his delightful family.

Now and then, during that slight and occasional acquaintance, Jared had extended invitations to me to speak at an AR conference. I always declined on the grounds, which I expressed frankly to Jared, that I did not want to jeopardize my relationship with National Review. Nor did I attend any AR conferences as an auditor, though that was more just a matter of not being a very keen conference-attender.

In 2011 Jared booked his conference for the Sheraton airport hotel in Charlotte, NC. As I am sure you know, the Mayor pro tem of Charlotte, Patrick Cannon, intimidated the Sheraton into canceling their agreement with AR.

I was very indignant about this. I wrote up my indignation for National Review Online—but they would not publish it. [Takimag did.]

I was still indignant when AR announced that they would have a conference in 2012 at a non-commercial location not susceptible to intimidation by politicians. I decided I would attend the 2012 conference as an auditor, to show solidarity with Jared and AR. I registered for the 2012 conference and bought plane tickets. The conference dates were March 16-18.

Unfortunately when those dates came round I was unwell and could not fly. I apologized to Jared by email.

After the conference, Jared sent me a gracious reply, commiserating with my health problem and telling me the conference had been a great success. He told me there would be another conference in 2013 at the same location, and once again extended an invitation to me to be a speaker.

I replied to Jared with an email dated March 26. Jared has given me permission to show you that email. First, though, let me just give you another date.

The email I’m going to show you was, I repeat, dated March 26 last year.

Ten days after that date, on April 5, I published a column in one of my other outlets in which I struck back at some of the nonsense being written about the Trayvon Martin affair, which was then in the news. National Review took exception to that column and dropped me from their contributor rolls on April 8.

Now I’ll show you my March 26 email to Jared, and you can savor the irony.[Click to enlarge.]

Quite seriously fed up with the timid careerists at NR

to Jared
Jared:

I am flattered to be invited.  My inclination is, that I WOULD like to
speak.  One thing about a cancer diagnosis, it gives one a different
perspective, a certain je m'en fous & damn the torpedoes.  Also, I am
getting quite seriously fed up with the timid careerists at NR & while
I'd like to continue the connection for financial reasons, I feel
pretty sure I shall do something to get myself canned in the next year
or so nolens volens.

So that's a provisional yes.  HOWEVER, the Mrs & I get a free cruise
out of NR this November -- the post-election cruise (nice opportunity
to get away from the race riots if Obama loses) & she looks forward to
that, so please no publicity before then that might scupper the
cruise.  Is that doable for you?

Shall the 2013 conference be in the state park again?  The place looks
lovely, & if so I want to book in a day or two early & get some hiking
in.

So Mrs. Derbyshire missed her November cruise. Fortunately she is of a supportive and philosophical cast of mind, so she took the disappointment in her stride. I have promised her that we shall have a prime cabin on the next American Renaissance cruise…

2. The Topic: “First Encounters of the Close Kind”

This is to be one of those talks that is more in the nature of “notes towards a research project” than a finished product. If you wanted to be unkind, you might say that it is a half-baked collection of observations and hypotheses; but I’m sure you are all kind people.

My idea is to examine the earliest encounters between races of which anything interesting can be said.

Around 60,000 years ago there was an exodus into the Arabian Peninsula.

I should first make clear what I mean by races. I am sure everyone here knows the paleoanthropological background. Our species, Homo sapiens, originated in Africa around a quarter million years ago.

Around 60,000 years ago there was an exodus into the Arabian Peninsula. It wasn’t the first time Homo sap. had left the home continent, but the previous excursions seem to have had no lasting consequences. This one did. The exodus population—which may have been very small, perhaps

John Derbyshire On The Babes Of AMERICAN RENAISSANCE

I had the privilege of speaking to the American Renaissance conference in Tennessee this past weekend. Here are just a few random personal notes.

Tennessee. A lovely state, in which I’d like to spend more time. The Mrs. and I went down there a couple of days early to do some sightseeing.

Here we are on one of the Confederate batteries at Fort Donelson, looking downriver, whence Union Flag Officer Andrew Foote’s little fleet steamed up to attack the fort on St. Valentine’s Day, 1862. That particular foray didn’t go well, but the fort soon fell anyway.John Derbyshire And The Mrs. At Fort Donelson

Say what you like about the Feddle Gummint—goodness knows, I’ve said plenty—but the National Park Service does a great job with these battlefields. In furtherance of my project of turning myself into a Civil War buff, I intend to explore more of them whenever I can.

At Fort Donelson there’s a 15-minute movie they show

Unpatriotic Priests Fronting Treason Lobby's March On Washington

The mob of Open-Borders extremists descending upon the Washington DC April 10 will include a prominent contingent of persons of the cloth. This religious window-dressing demonstrates that the Cultural Marxist assault on traditional standards of morality is reaching into America’s churches….plus, of course, there’s the selfish desire to boost dwindling congregations; and money. [D.C. immigrant activists optimistic ahead of Wednesday rally, By Pamela Constable, Washington Post, April 6, 2013]

The concept of virtue has been rejiggered through the Leftist doctrine into victimology, where the most publicized sob story wins. Plus, the immigration issue now contains a strong tribal aspect, in which victimhood is conflated to include whole races and nationalities.

The gimme-Amnesty mob will be headed up by hardcore Treason Lobbyists like the Raza Gang and the Leftist SEIU. But why are useful idiot clergy giving moral cover?

Consider the ethical position—take jobs from poor Americans to give to poor law-breaking foreigners. The belief in such activities comes from Marx, not Jesus. Why do church representatives believe it is moral to cause more pain to Americans in order to make life easier for Mexicans?

We live in a stagnant economy with a shrinking workforce. The April 5 monthly jobs report was a shocker, with only 88,000 new jobs added and the lowest rate of employment participation since 1979.

The current “recovery” from the terrible recession of a few years ago is the weakest in many decades. Little is said of the harm that comes from the long duration of the economic pain, but job loss in hard times means unemployment benefits ending, depletion of savings and homes being sold or repossessed. The suffering is cumulative, but the Opravda press doesn’t want to show its beloved leader in a bad light.

It took a British newspaper to report on formerly middle class Americans living in tents in New Jersey.

How can any religious person (much less an ordained one) support mass amnesty in such a painful economic environment? According to Senator Jeff Sessions (during an April 3 phone call to Fox news), eight million foreigners would be morphed into legal workers as soon as legalization is enacted. (Naturally, not every single illegal alien among the official 11 million will be grabbing

They explicitly call for violence (“This Machine Kills Fascists”—the picture is of an AK-47) and mass murder of whites (“Repeat Dresden”). Imagine the MSM hysteria if the equivalent were seen at a Tea Party rally! But of course we don’t have to imagine this double standard—we have the utter silence of the MSM, and its Conservatism Inc. collaborators, when American Renaissance conferences were suppressed by threats of violence in 2011 and 2010. As he did last year, Jared Taylor appears to have countered this by using a government facility in a Heartland state. We post here his remarks to the conference about two earlier veterans of the struggle between Cultural Marxism and truth.

Last year, the world lost two giants in the field of race realism. John Philippe Rushton on October 2, and Arthur Robert Jensen just 20 days later on October 22.

Arthur Jensen was 89, but Phil Rushton was only 68, and died of complications from Addison’s disease, a rare disorder of the adrenal gland.

Both men spent their careers battling for the truth, mainly the truth about the nature of intelligence, its heritability, and its distribution. Both men also endured years of insults, professional ostracism, and endless lies about what they thought and wrote. Both withstood these torments with great calm and cheerfulness, and always replied politely and generously, even when their critics were ignorant and insulting. They were gentlemen as well as scholars.

I’m not sure that many young scholars will follow in their footsteps. Our period is, if anything, more ferociously closed minded than ever, and not many people have the courage to seek or defend the truth when there is a heavy price to pay for doing so.

It was my privilege to know both of these remarkable men.

My first encounter with Arthur Jensen was entirely indirect. It was in 1970, shortly after he shot to notoriety because of that famous article on race and IQ in the Harvard Educational Review. [PDF]I was a student at Yale, and Jensen had been invited to give a lecture. Like virtually everyone on campus, I was an uncompromising egalitarian and I was sure Jensen was wrong, but I wanted to hear what this wicked man had to say.

When I got to the lecture hall, there was a crowd outside but no one was allowed in. The talk had been canceled because of threats of violence. Most of my friends were happy: The “racist,” they said, had been defeated. Although, as I say, I was convinced Jensen was completely wrong, it seemed cowardly and shameful to silence a man, no matter what his views.

It didn’t occur to me, though, that I was behaving shamefully in my own way. I knew nothing about genetics or IQ testing—nothing at all—and yet I was convinced I was right Jensen was wrong. I was convinced I knew better than a scientist who had studied the subject thoroughly. How embarrassing to have been such an arrogant ignoramus! But that is how our species works. Most of us just soak up whatever we hear around us, and I had heard only one thing. And what is maybe even more important, most of us would never dare have an opinion that was unfashionable, and Jensen was about as unfashionable as you could get.

The thugs who shut down Jensen’s talk accomplished at least one thing. Probably it was thanks to them that it took me another 15 years to realize that Jensen was right, and that I was wrong. I’m sure Jensen would have given a calm, factual talk and perhaps I would have avoided a decade of ignorance if I had heard him speak.

Jensen was almost the prototype of the cloistered academic without any political axe to grind. Until 1967, he had believed, just like most people, that differences in IQ—both for individuals and groups—are almost entirely governed by childhood environment. In fact, he even got a Guggenheim fellowship to do research for a book he planned to write on how cultural deprivation depresses the intelligence of blacks.

As part of his research, he looked into the genetics of intelligence,

That America created only 88,000 jobs in March, less than half the number anticipated, was jolting news, indicating the recovery that the White House has boasted about may not be at hand.
