VDARE.com And The Need To Think Anew

As I write this, in the dawn of Sunday, December 18, there are just thirteen days left to give VDARE.com a donation that will be deductible against your 2011 taxes.

Two things are becoming clear.

• First, we will not make our $50,000 target without a serious surge in donations—yet, if we open the site, donations practically halt.
• Second, with the debate phase of the Republican presidential contest almost over, the candidate are still frantically struggling to evade the issue of illegal immigration—and legal immigration, above all the need for an anti-unemployment immigration moratorium, shows no sign of surfacing at all.

(Nor, needless to say, has the issue of Affirmative Action quotas).

This is critical, because election campaigns are one of the few times when issues can break free of the control of America’s bipartisan political elite.

There are some good signs, of course. The candidates are obviously terrified of the issue. Even candidates who supported amnesty in the past, and who would likely to do so in future, try to disguise it with talk of citizen review boards and “going to the back of the line.”

And several of them now profess to support making English the official language of the U.S., a very necessary (but not sufficient) defensive measure.

On a personal note, since I have repeatedly written on VDARE.com about the need to impeach judges who legislate from the bench, especially in the area of immigration enforcement, I am amused to see Speaker Gingrich is now denouncing judicial imperialism.

(I am also amused to see that on Face The Nation this Sunday he is now alleging that his Amnesty proposal would involve the departure of millions of illegal immigrants. Obviously this ultra-professional idea merchandiser realizes what his target market wants to hear – no thanks to the MSM).

But the hour is very late. The demographic damage done by the post-1965 immigration disaster is now so great that the future of the historic American nation, and of the political institutions it created, is, frankly, unclear.

To adapt Lincoln, as our case is new, we may have to think anew.

Thinking anew is what VDARE.com does. We will be writing a lot about this in the next year.

But we must also be aware of this reality: the only reason the illegal immigration issue is now able to frighten presidential candidates is that the American people have been alerted—-to the point where they raise the issue spontaneously when they meet candidates on the campaign trail.

The next step is to alert Americans to the even greater danger of mass legal immigration.

It can be done. The change in public awareness since VDARE.com started publishing on Christmas Eve, 1999, has been enormous.

And it could make an enormous difference. The amazing fact is America’s immigration nightmare could be ended in months, not years.

But we need your help—-to help Americans become aware of that next step.
